Chasing Waves in Soft Pastels

My art journey has never been consistent or monotonous — it’s a never-ending search and exploration. I seize every chance to try a new technique or medium, whether it’s a multilayered collage, Japanese calligraphy, or soft pastels. Should I have focused on honing one specific style instead? Probably! I guess I’m just too restless to paint the same subject over and over again or master the same technique for years. Well, too bad — I guess I’ll never become a samurai, haha. But I believe that the most important thing is to have fun in the moment, and I absolutely do!

My latest experiment brought me right back to soft pastels and coastal vibes. I caught up with a wonderful fellow artist from Ukraine, Olga Symonenko, for a cozy studio session. We spent the day capturing deep blue seascapes and that crisp, salty air. This striking, snow-white seagull is the result of that practice, and I enjoyed every single second of bringing it to life.
