Last week I was driving back home from Union City after picking up my artworks from the Bay Area Artist Showcase at Studio 11, when I saw this scenic view—heavy afternoon clouds running over the rolling hills and casting dramatic deep shadows over the yellow grass, all dry and stiff after the hot East Bay summer. I tried to take a photo while stopped at the red light, but somehow my phone didn’t save it. So after all, I had to recreate it from my memory.
I didn’t mean to create a masterpiece or an award winner. I just wanted to capture a vivid impression—this is what usually drives my painting, allowing me to revisit moments and places I've been. A quick watercolor study on an 8”×10” piece of paper. Working on it brought me a sense of comfort and joy after a break from painting.
I also recorded the entire painting process and made a 12-minute tutorial with step-by-step instructions. Take a peek, or try to paint with me—it’s absolutely free!
