Midnight Reverie at aRt Cottage
It’s time to keep my promise and share more about another art show exploring the theme of reflection.
Reflection has been examined and depicted in art for ages—whether it’s light bouncing off reflective surfaces, an image cast by a mirror, or the mind deep in introspection and contemplation.
This show takes place at aRtCottage, an adorable little art gallery draped in wisteria, just steps from downtown Concord. I love this space—it is so warm and cozy, and the owner, FROgard Schmidt, is the most welcoming host. I’ve exhibited my watercolors here multiple times, but this time I decided to make a bold move and submit something unusual for me: a set of four vibrant mixed-media pieces on wood panels, created back when I was studying abstract art.
I worked on them simultaneously over many days. Each piece holds countless layers built with a variety of techniques and mediums—acrylics, pencils, gel pens, hand-painted rice paper collage, and even imprints of local flora. I loved the process and was truly proud of the outcome. For years, this series adorned the wall in my home with its festive energy. Now, for the very first time, I’m showing it in public.
